Online Genealogy Classes

People around the world
are catching the
genealogy bug,
but many just don’t know
where or how to start.

Are you one of them?

New Year: New Beginning

“Change is the only constant” - Proverb quotes

This is the time of year when we follow the tradition to “ring out the old” and “ring in the new.” We reflect on what we’ve accomplished, or those goals we haven’t quite reached. We ponder what we could have done better, and we make resolutions or set new goals for the coming year. It’s also a time for looking forward to new beginnings whether it’s for your genealogical research or for other aspects of your life.

Here at GenClass we’re also anticipating a change in 2010. We will say farewell to the current format for GenClass courses, as our instructors branch out to new opportunities in the genealogical community.

Therefore, starting 01 January 2010, GenClass will no longer offer online genealogy classes. However, GenClass instructors will continue to share their knowledge and expertise through other outlets. Most have signed on to teach with
the National Institute for Genealogical Studies <www.genealogicalstudies.com>.

The National Institute has offered courses online since October 1999 and is considered the leader in genealogical education around the world. They offer over 150 individual courses to help you expand your knowledge. If a formal education program is your objective, they also have Certificate Programs in the records of the United States, Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland and Germany. They also offer a Librarianship Certificate Program. These programs are offered in affiliation with the Continuing Education unit of the University of St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto.

"Adding the classes offered by instructors at GenClass will be a terrific addition to our course offering. The instructors offer valuable information for proper strategic research plans. We look forward to working with the GenClass team to continue offering this type of valuable education."

- Louise St Denis, Managing Director of the National Institute.

The instructors at GenClass would like to thank all of the students who have taken our courses over the past two years, all those who have read and enjoyed this newsletter, and everyone who has followed us on Twitter and Facebook. It has been a pleasure to meet so many enthusiastic fellow family historians and we have enjoyed sharing our knowledge with you.

Change is inevitable, but it also brings with it
new opportunities for growth.

We hope to meet up with you again in the future, and wish you
all the best in your genealogical endeavors!

Wishing you a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season,
and a productive 2010!

Micha, Michael, Pat, Schelly, and Sheena

(Final) Tip of the Month: Make a list of genealogical goals you hope to accomplish in the New Year. Keep a research log or journal to cross off tasks as you complete them. And remember, leave no stone unturned, no record unsearched, and never stop networking!
